If you are on a dial up connection charging by the minute it is better to set up an account whereby you can write emails offline, then go online to send and receive them.
You will need an account which supports both sending and receiving without necessarily logging on through them, I can recommend www.uk.yahoo.com but Gmail support this as well. You can open an mail account with either or. You will then need to configure your email client to send and receive . POP or Imap
